The Chinese New Year Tournament Ended With Thirty Three Winners!
A Happy Conclusion!

The one day tournament was held on February 6, 2011 at Tualatin Hills Athletic Center. Seventy-five players participated in this event. They came from both Oregon and Washington. The variety of prizes awarded at all levels made it more fun and more of a challenge. The total prize money distributed was $1,575, which was slightly higher than last year's total of $1,240.

The event was a double round robin with single elimination for the top players at the third stage. Players were organized into groups of five, each group having all levels represented, from a top-level player down to the lowest rating. Winners of the round robin in each group won a $25 prize. Then the second round robin groups were arranged by performance, where players with the same win/loss record in the first round robin were placed in groups of five, and the winner of each of these groups won $25. The third stage was a single-elimination round for the top two players in the top three groups in the second round robin (made up of those players who won their tables in the first round robin).

Among the seventy-five players, seventy were males and five were females. The youngest age was eight and the oldest was seventy-two. It is likely that no other single sports event can show such a wide spread of ages. Sixty players were from Oregon and fifteen from Washington.

The 1st place winner was James Qiao, the 2nd place winner was Michael Wang3rd and 4th went to Brian Chia and Soskic Vukman, and 5th and 6th places went to Roger Castle and John Oschner. The 3rd and 4th are equal places. The 5th and 6th are also the same. The following picture shows James Qiao and Michael Wang with their trophies.
